This free service promotes independence at home. Our Occupational Therapist assesses your needs and offers tailored recommendations for aids or adaptations

Criteria & Cost

To be considered for this service, you must:

• Live with a physical disability and/or vision impairment
• Be 18 or over
• Identify as Jewish
• Live within the M25

This service is funded by our principal supporter, Wohl Legacy, alongside generous individuals from across the community.

 

The service offers impartial advice from an occupational therapist on a range of areas, including:

• Helping you move around your home
• Recommending aids and devices to help with tasks such as cooking, dressing and personal care
• Installing ramps or grab rails
• Recommending technology to assist with opening doors and windows, and controlling the temperature

What happens next?

After receiving the Occupational Therapist’s report, you can either privately purchase the recommended items (we can arrange a follow-up visit) or send the report to the local authority, which may provide some items, though there might be a wait. We can support you with this process.

If you need help with obtaining aids or adaptations and the local authority will not provide them, on some occasions, we can help acquire these items on your behalf with either a loan or grant.

I was really struggling in my own home. I’m delighted JBD’s ‘at home’ service meant I could have all my doors widened and my kitchen and bathroom customised to accommodate my wheelchair. Now I can use my kitchen again – and soon I’ll have A great new wet room too!
